A little gem in my old town! This tapas restaurant never disappoints. The service of Danielle & Marco was absolutely fantastic—warm, attentive, and welcoming from the moment you walk in. The food is incredible: really fresh, served hot, and full of authentic flavours. Every dish tastes like it’s been made with care.

Highly recommend this place for dinner in Marbella. The food and service was great! We were served by Marcos, who was very helpful and gave us fantastic recommendations. We had the entrecote, lamb shoulder, suckling pig, anchovies, aubergine fries, and octopus salad… everything was delicious and reasonably priced! Will definitely come here again.

Food was lovely and fresh with lots of variety on the menu! As we ordered a bunch of similar looking tapas, they were all served on one large plate so we were confused as to what was what. When we asked the waitress, she seemed confused (maybe it’s a language barrier?) as to what was actually what. On top of that, there seemed to have been a mixup of opening times as my party arrived for lunch based on what was written on Google. However, when we arrived, the man by the door told us to come back in half an hour as they were not ready…

Service was super quick. No reservation was required, but I think that might be because it was off season? We literally didn’t have to wait at all for service. The atompasher was amazing and beautiful. It has outside seating and in the winter time it’s a little chilly but you have an amazing view of all the Christmas decor they have EVERYWHERE. Again, service was awesome and they all were quick and super friendly. One of they guys stopped and chatted with our table for a few minutes. The foooood!! So delicious. The tomato cherries were SO good. And the anchovies were so fresh and yummy!! Recommend getting a few things and just sharing between the table so you can try it all! Nothing was leftover.

A great place for a tapa with a large choice of tasty and well prepared food – all by the ladies in the open kitchen. The place is very popular and super busy but service is only let down by the failure of all the meals to arrive at the sane time. Great Spanish atmosphere and food

Niloufar Taghizoghi

The location was lovely, we sat outside and really enjoyed the cool, relaxed atmosphere. Service was also a strong point; the staff were friendly, accommodating, and the food arrived quickly. Unfortunately, the food itself was quite underwhelming. It lacked flavor and presentation, which was disappointing given the setting and service. The Cherry Peppers were very inconsistent, some were cold, some warm and some were hot. The potatoes with spicy sauce had so much sauce that it wasn’t pleasant to eat.

Pintxos (tapas) are very good. I liked the concept they bring the plates to your table and you choose which one you want. Sometimes need to be a little patient waiting for the one you want. Was difficult to understand at the beginning the price as they didn’t offer to see the menu and started bringing the pintxos as soon as we arrived without any explanation. Small pintxos – 2,20 euros, big – 3 euros.

Lekune is always worth a visit, been coming here for years in a row and it never disappoints. We waited for about 20 min after arriving at 9PM, which is really ok. The pork ribs and the different salads were amazing but everything else as well. The cake was a bit too much heavy cream for my taste.

The food is good and coming fast. There are no prices, but waiter told us that there is a price for large and small stick. But we paid for large, small and extra small sticks. We were waiting 20 min for the bill. Waiter brought a bill for 2x things that we ordered. If we would not say anything, probably we would pay 150 euro instead of 80…

Hilda

Not all the staff speak English so they have a menu with the translation of most of their regular dishes. It’s easier to find a table during lunch, but dinner service is recommended because their specialty dish (Spanish omelette) is only available in the evening. We were surprised by the generous portions of salad (and we had a half portion). The oxtail stew was fantastic, homemade taste but with a quality restaurant level. We also had the meatballs which were great, but they were overshadowed by the richness of the oxtail stew. I really love the authentic Spanish family restaurant vibe. It’s a rare gem in an overpopulated industry in the heart of Marbella where people usually focus on aesthetics rather than the soul food. I look forward to visiting again to try their tortilla de huevos y patatas during dinner service.

One night while strolling back to our accommodations we walked by a restaurant filled with locals enjoying dinner. We returned the next day for lunch, unfortunately there were no tables available, however reservations were offered to us. We returned 2 days later for our reservation. The wait was worth it. Our meal was amazing! The dishes were presented beautifully and the flavors were delicious. We enjoyed every dish. The malaguena salad was delicious. The cod, potato & orange combination was so unique. Service was friendly & helpful. This is truly a hidden local’s gem. Make a reservation so you won’t be disappointed.

We had an absolutely fantastic experience at Taberna Gaspar. This place truly lives up to its reputation for authentic homemade Spanish food. We started with the pisto, which was outstanding — full of flavor, perfectly cooked, and clearly made with fresh ingredients. The tortilla de patatas was one of the best we’ve ever had: artisanal, perfectly balanced, incredibly juicy and melt-in-the-mouth. You can tell they take real pride in this classic dish. The sole was also tremendous — beautifully cooked, delicate and fresh. We also tried the meatballs, which were rich, comforting and full of homemade character. Every dish felt traditional and carefully prepared. To accompany the meal we had a Louro white wine, which was excellent — crisp, elegant and a perfect match for the food. The whole experience captures what Taberna Gaspar is about: honest, traditional Spanish cuisine with a cozy, local atmosphere. A must-visit in Marbella if you’re looking for authentic flavors and unforgettable homemade dishes. Highly recommended — we will definitely be back.

My family had the best lunch in last seven days, travelling on southwest coast of Spain. The food was fresh and tasty, we had meatballs, steak, avocado salad, paella and musaca…. We cannot decide which one was better. In the end big thanks to the service and local staff… everything was on above our expectations ❤️❤️

expected a much better experience considering the high number of reviews and the rating. I have to say, the avocado salad was absolutely excellent — simple, fresh, and very delicious. The cheese, dressing, and avocado were all perfectly balanced, and the presentation was beautiful. I would definitely give the salad a 5/5. However, the service was disappointing. Most of the staff did not speak English, and although I noticed one person who could speak it well, communication was still very difficult. We ordered two drinks and had to follow up several times, but after a long wait, they brought us two dishes instead. It was clear that they hadn’t understood our order at all. The cuscus vegetal was also very interesting .it had a unique combination of flavors and was quite enjoyable.

We had a delicious dinner here with our 19 year old son. We all loved the tasty dishes and Theo home-made sangria. The decoration inside is warm and cosy with a light music and positive energy and the staff we friendly and fast-responding. Unfortunately not possible to transfer the nice smell of the food via photos…😇😋 Strongly recommended!

We visited this place as a group of six and enjoyed tapas and paella, along with some sangria. I can highly recommend it to everyone. The paella was perfectly prepared and absolutely delicious, and the tapas we chose were just as tasty. Overall, a great restaurant that I would definitely recommend. The terrace in particular is very cozy and worth sitting at.

Such a lovely place, delicious food, super friendly staff, and a warm atmosphere! The tapas were excellent as always, tasty and served with a smile. Sitting on the terrace by the water makes it all the more special. One small thing I noticed: the beef tenderloin tapas, which used to be my favorite, are no longer on the menu. Maybe just temporarily unavailable? I really missed them and hope they’ll make a comeback soon!

The restaurant is located so beautifully. It feels like you found a hidden gem and you also really did find one. The people are incredibly friendly, the patio down the stairs is like a literal dream and it was so cozy. The food was good, I still think about that Burrata Salade with vigs from their own tree’s (OMG). The waiter overheard us talking about how much we love vigs and he brought us more vigs to enjoy. I absolutely recommend coming to beautiful place

This restaurant is an amazing place for anyone who loves high-quality meat. The steaks are perfectly cooked, juicy, and full of flavor. The restaurant is surrounded by beautiful greenery, creating a peaceful and relaxing atmosphere. The friendly and amazing Ana Belen service make it even better, cozy setting make the experience even better. I highly recommend this restaurant for delicious food and a wonderful dining experience.

This is a truly beautiful place, we loved the garden, the interior as well as the river. Seeing this, we had very high expectations for the food. We ordered truffle butter bread as the starter and it was very nice. Sadly, this is when our good experience started plummeting down. We ordered the leek, fish, a salad and mashed potatoes as a side. The fish was edible, but not outstanding. Unfortunately i couldn’t finish my leek, the more bites i took, the more i hated it. There was nothing special or tasty about it, eventually it became inedible for me. I was hoping maybe i can help myself with the salad. This was the worst salad i’ve ever had in my entire life, couldn’t taste anything but vinegar. At first, we’ve been hoping to order some desserts, but after our unfortunate food experience we decided not to. It’s so disappointing to see such a beautiful place having such bad food. It’s just really sad 🙁

The atmosphere is exceptional—at times, you truly forget you are in Marbella. The music is perfectly curated, creating a sophisticated and immersive ambiance. The cuisine reflects a high level of refinement, with beautifully presented and thoughtfully elaborated dishes. Dining as a group of six from different international backgrounds, we experienced a variety of impressions. The desserts, particularly the mille-feuille and crème brûlée, were visually stunning and technically well-executed, although not entirely aligned with everyone’s personal taste. The meat dishes were outstanding, and the chicken and mashed potato were well-prepared, though slightly spicy for our preference. Overall, the food is of high quality and creativity, but certain flavor profiles may lean towards the spicier side for some guests.

We visited this restaurant twice within five days. It’s a mountain restaurant with a wonderfully warm and welcoming atmosphere, where the entire staff is not only highly professional but also genuinely kind and sincere. Especially our waitress Noor was excellent. The food stands out in every way — in flavor, presentation, and visual appeal — and honestly surpasses many Michelin-starred restaurants we’ve experienced. Discovering a place that we already feel is “ours,” somewhere we’ll always want to return to, has been a real joy for us.

Fantastic restaurant in Marbella! Food is made with fresh ingredients and cooked to perfection. Every single dish we ordered was amazing. Their cocktails and wines are extremely good as well. The place itself is so cozy, nicely warm for a winter evening, plus the live jazz band completed the whole ambience. Last but not least, we were served by the friendliest and most professional staff members. Special thanks to Skender, Sara, and Diego who gladly answered all the questions we had, and who gave us the best recommendations. We were a group of 4 friends from different nationalities, and they perfectly covered every conversation in Spanish, English and French. Can’t wait to visit Cascada Cocina & Bar again!

Loved this restaurant, the food was amazing! Me and my partner shared the BBQ platter and we think it was the best steak we have had yet cooked perfectly, the portion was great with an amazing value we enjoyed this so much we had to go back before we flew back home. The staff were always very polite and attentive.

I live in Marbella and we’ve been regulars at this restaurant for a long time. We always came back for the excellent Menú del Día, especially the M2 option. It was a great choice for a quick lunch with really good price-quality ratio — the menu plus a drink would come to under €16, with bread and chimichurri included. Unfortunately, our last visit was disappointing. They now charge €1.30 for a few pieces of bread and another €1.30 for the chimichurri that were always included. The Coke Zero also arrived in a tiny 20-25cl bottle, barely one glass. All of a sudden the bill is around 20% higher. For a tourist visiting once it might not matter, but as a local with many options around, this changes everything. What used to be a reliable, attractive choice for a good-value menu del dia lunch is now overpriced. My advice to the owner: remove the charges for bread and chimichurri. Keeping it competitive will make a big difference in keeping regular customers coming back.

iberico secreto – cooked to perfection, not too fatty spicy sausage – the smoke on this was on point empanadas – not too oily, generous amount of filling burger – done just right; medium with the accurate shade of pink chimichurri – house special served upon ordering of drinks, we ended up finishing the entire container price was surprisingly decent and the servers are the best so far, in our trip around spain! those who could speak english, engaged. those who couldn’t, tried their best to provide amazing service still. my go to place the next time i’m back in Marbella!

We enjoyed the Argentinian cuisine and the different meats, which were very tasty. Desserts tasted a little bit as if they were not entirely fresh. Banofee tasted a little bit to sweet for our liking. Overall, Hacienda Patagonica is a great restaurant.

Self serve tapas yes it’s new for us, but the hot tapas being offered throughout the evening was excellent. People were happily eating and conversing. Just the right atmosphere and good food. When in Marbella, experience the tapas scene and eat, laugh and enjoy life.

We were there for a drink and ordered a bottle of cava. However, the staff did not seem very focused on their work. They appeared to have poor communication with each other and did not speak English very well, which was quite surprising for a bar and restaurant located in the middle of a tourist area. That said, they were friendly and polite, and the atmosphere was pleasant. The tapas were also fresh and delicious. In the end, we were satisfied and enjoyed our time there.

Excellent tapas bar ! Hot tapasa are delivered by waiters and cold ones may be picked up directly from the buffet. Then they will count number and type of the skewers. And they served absolutely excellent wine! Place was packed so service was reasonably stumbling

Nice tapas bar with a great concept: you can see and select the tapas from a buffet and put them on a plate. You pay per tapa with differently sized tapas costing different prices. They bring warm tapas and show them around …if you like one you take it. They also have various sweet desserts. I loved the atmosphere of the deck they have outside. Nice place!

Ideally located this is one of the best Pintxo tavernas in town. Close to the front near many Tapas restaurants. Be aware that most of these are generally poor quality. So it was a surprise to find this one. We came for an early lunch. The bar was stocked with fresh Pintxos, and when I asked, we were politely told to take a plate and help ourselves. They would count up the sticks once we finished. We had a nice variety, tuna, Russian salad, tuna in tortilla, to name a few. Check the pics the quality was nearly as good as Pintxos from San Sebastian! We were also served with a few dishes that the waitress walked around with, sirloin steak and spring roll. We had 4 glasses of Rioja and with 7 dishes the bill came to 32€!

Frequently asked questions about traditional bodegas in Marbella

    What exactly is a bodega?

A bodega is a traditional Spanish establishment that serves as a neighborhood shop, tavern, or wine cellar. In many regions, these spaces function as social hubs where locals can purchase groceries, specialty cheeses, and wines while enjoying a relaxed atmosphere. They are characterized by their rustic charm and their role as pillars of community life.

    Why are they called bodegas?

The term "bodega" historically refers to a warehouse or cellar used for the storage of wine and other agricultural products. Over time, the name evolved to describe the retail shops and taverns that sell these products directly to the public. In a local context, the name signifies a space dedicated to the preservation and enjoyment of traditional food and drink.

What are the different styles and characteristics of a bodega?

Bodegas vary in style depending on their primary function, ranging from large-scale wine cellars to small, intimate neighborhood shops. A traditional bodega typically features rustic decor, specialized storage for local produce, and a selection of regional beverages. Key characteristics include a focus on heritage, high-quality local ingredients, and a welcoming, unpretentious environment.
